Why aren't staff and faculty automatically granted swipe access to Miner Library?
Answer
Swipe access is intended for study space use when the library is not open. During these times, the library is not staffed and there is no access to the stacks. Students need the study space because there’s a shortage of study space around the University. It has been our experience that staff/faculty do not regularly use the library for study space in the late evenings or very early morning hours, and generally have office space onsite.
On rare occasions an exception may be made for a staff or faculty member, without a private office, that needs study space for a particular purpose. For example, a staff member studying for a board exam. However, these individuals would still need to go through their department/program administrator and their department would need to support that after-hours access to the library would be of significant benefit to that individual.
